Our range of 4U mounting solutions
In the past, 4U systems have usually consisted of a 4U 85HP boat fitted with a single front panel. Although this is still the most popular format, recent times have seen the movement to a more modular approach, first with the introduction of 4x4 modules and recently with a more truer modular approach where, in general, each module has its own dedicated panel.
It has also been the trend to mount these boats in to a custom or modified case. Again, this is still the more popular trend but again, with the movement towards a more modular approach, there has been a movement to a more flexible enclosure system that is not constrained by the original 85HP boat width and that can be expanded both sideways and upwards.
ELBY Designs offers a selection of parts that helps bring this modular approach closer to fruition.
4U Boats

This is the standard housing for the BoCGS, Voltron and Serge designs and accepts a singe 4U panel. Original BUD AC423 enclosures are available but will require additional working including drilling holes for mounting PCBs, power connectors and Panel mounting holes. BUD enclosures come with a raw aluminium finish. Our custom made BoCGS Boats come pre-punched to accept our CGS391 Mounting Rails, MIC power connector and come with a black anodised finish. |

Our BoCGS Boats also include a set of mounting holes that accept our Boat Racking Kit that allows the boat to be mounted in to a standard 19" frame. Supports our BoCGS and Voltron panels. 2 variants are offered:-
Users wishing to mount their own boats using our Rack Moutning Kit will need to drill 2x 5.2mm holes in the positions indicated in this template. The area marked in red should be kept clear of obstructions to allow the Rack Ears and Support Plat to sit evenly against the end of the boat. M5x10mm or M5x12mm bolts are recommended for attaching the Rack Ears to the boat. |

Our 4U Boats come pre-drilled to accept the MIC family of power connectors. In our 4U systems we use the 4-pin variant with the following pinout:-
* 0V1 and 0V2 MUST be shorted together at the main power supply. This is done automatically when using our PSU-8 or PSU-10 power units |
4U Racks

4U Lite Rack. Mounts into a custom housing and supports all internationally compliant 4U format modules and panels including our BoCGS and Voltron family. The standard size is 84HP but widths up to 168HP are available. |

4U Skinny Racks. These are the 19" Rack Mount version of the 4U Lite Rack. The 84HP Lite Rack fits standard 19" frames. Larger widths up to 168HP are available. |

NB: 84HP racks have 16.8" of module space so in a standard installation there will be 0.8" of unused space. This space could be filled with either 2x 2HP Blank Panels (one at each end) or 1x 4HP Blank Panel. The 4HP Blank panel could then be used to provide ancillary functions such as a format jumbler with 4mm and 3.5mm sockets, power in socket and/or switch with LED status indicators, VU Meter, Pedal Interface etc. |
End Cheeks
To augment our 4U Boats we offer this family of End Cheeks that support 1 boat (4U), 2 boats (8U) or 3 boats (12U).
Each End Cheek is 19mm thick affording a rigid end piece that will not buckle or bend and has 2x M5 predrilled holes for each 4U section that mates up with fixing points on the 4U Boats.
The End Cheeks are made from a high quality pure white thermoplastic that offers the following features:-
- will not fade, break or splinter
- will not delaminate or rust
- strong, durable and impact resistant
- chemically inert
- graffiti resistant and easy to clean
- resistant to mildew, mould and odours
- moisture resistant
