Safety Instructions

  • Read all the instructions before using the product
  • Do not use this product near water
  • Make sure that the product is positioned for use in a way that does not interfere with its proper ventilation
  • The product should be located away from heat sources such as radiators or other products that produce heat
  • Do not operate in direct sunlight
  • The product should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating instructions, datasheets or as marked on the product
  • The power supply cord of the product should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a long period or during lightning storms
  • Care should be taken so that objects do not fall, and liquids are not spilled, into the enclosure through any openings.

Warnings

  • Only use the the power adaptor included
  • Do not touch the power supply board while the unit is powered on
  • Some components will get hot
  • Only use M3 screws for mounting module. Be careful not to crossthread the screws when attaching to the Tapped Strips.

Features

  • Modules can be connected to the power supply up to a combined amperage of the following for each voltage rail as detailed in the datasheet
  • DO NOT connect more than a total current draw of the specified current to any voltage rail - this could damage your power supply and/or connected modules
  • You can add more module power connections by adding an ED704 Passive Busboard or, if you also need more power, an ED705 Active Busboard
  • Your Studio Series of Powered Case can be mounted with other Studio Series Cases (Powered and unpowered) of the same width using our Studio Tree
  • LED indicators
    • 2x LEDs on the Power Panel provide 'POWER IN' status and indicate the status of the external 15V supply (ON/OFF switch must be ON)
    • 2x LEDs on the busboards show the status of the +12V and -12V voltage rails
    • a 3rd LED on the busboards indicates if any 5V supply has been connected and is functioning (if using the EURO-5V then it will need to be in BUSEN mode for this LED to operate)
    • An incorrectly installed power cable, short circuit, or power supply failure will cause one or more LEDs to turn off or dim
    • If you notice one or more of these LEDs are not illuminated or are noticeably dimmer than the others, power off the case immediately, and check your power cabling for correctness. You may need to disconnect all modules, check the power supply for correct functioning and then re-connect modules one at a time to establish if there is a module related issue

Installing Modules

  • Determine the location you wish for your module to be installed and attach its ribbon cable to the nearest power connector on the busboard. NB: ELBY Designs use boxed headers on both the busboards and modules and supply pre-assembled ribbon cables so you not need to check for their orientation, but if using 3rd-party modules and/or ribbon cables it is important that you check that pin 1 of the module (red-stripe end) is connected to pin 1 on the busboard, it is not uncommon (unfortunately!) that some 3rd-party ribbon cables pay not attention to the orientation of the sockets on their ribbon cables resulting in incorrectly 'wired' cables which will not work in a system using boxed header.
  • Once connected, offer the module fully up to the panel ensuring that you fold any excess power cable neatly behind the module to prevent it fouling on any busboard components and to maximise airflow around the boat

5V Power

  • If a module requires an external 5V supply we recommend the use of our EURO-5V inline 5V power adaptor or an equivalent 3rd-party solution
  • It is preferred that each module have its own EURO-5V for optimum performance but if you have only 1 or 2 modules requiring 5V then a single EURO-5V can be installed and set to 'BUSEN' mode, in this mode the 5V LED on the busboard will illuminate to indicate the presence of the 5V rail
